Pre-Primary Tap (Age 4+)

Tap Dance is an exciting, percussive, and rhythmical dance form. Dancers use their feet to strike the floor, creating a melody with their tap shoes, which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to produce the distinctive sound. This theatrical art form is often seen on screen and stage in musicals, captivating audiences with its dynamic and rhythmic performances.

In Pre-Primary Tap, children are introduced to using rhythm within music to tap their feet and to make sounds with different parts of their feet. This is the first tap class that students study at our dance school. When we feel they are ready, they can take an exam once they turn 5.

The ISTD Tap syllabus teaches children to work both individually and in groups, enhancing coordination, good posture, strength, suppleness, and a great sense of rhythm and timing. It also provides an opportunity for children to enjoy entertaining music, use their imaginations, and express themselves through facial expressions and movement.

Students will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and progress by performing in our annual show at the Parr Hall. This event is a highlight of the year, allowing students to experience the thrill and joy of performing on stage in front of an audience.
