Tap Dance is an exciting, percussive, and rhythmical dance form. Dancers use their feet to strike the floor, creating a melody with their tap shoes, which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to produce the distinctive sound. This theatrical art form is often seen on screen and stage in musicals, captivating audiences with its dynamic and rhythmic performances.
Beginners are encouraged to start off in Grade 1 Tap & work their way through the grades.
By Grade 6, most children within the lesson are working hard in order to potentially take the ISTD Grade 6 Examination. We believe as a dance school, it’s good for children to study towards exams as it encourages the pupils to practice and perfect the steps, and ultimately work towards a goal.
ISTD Grade 6 Tap is suitable for pupils who have completed ISTD Grade 5 tap
Within Grade 6 Tap, children become confident enough to begin working on more complex steps. Tap encourages self-discipline, self expression, allowing children to develop their listening skills and also encourage children to follow instruction. ISTD Tap helps children learn to work both as an individual and in a group, developing co-ordination, good posture, strength and suppleness, and also a chance to be free with the entertaining music and longer, more complex exercises.
UCAS Points
ISTD Grade 6 Tap counts towards UCAS Tariff points.
Grade 6 is a Level 3 qualification on the RQF, and UCAS allocates points based on the result:
- Distinction: 14 points
- Merit: 10 points
- Pass: 8 points
Why UCAS points matter
Some universities make points-based offers (e.g., “120 points”) rather than specific grades, so achievements like ISTD Grade 6 can help you meet entry requirements alongside A-levels/BTECs. These exams are also very important if the dancer would like to continue their training further at a Dance College where they will work towards a professional Diploma in Dance.
Students will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and progress by performing in our annual show at the Parr Hall. This event is a highlight of the year, allowing students to experience the thrill and joy of performing on stage in front of an audience.
