Grade 4 and 5 Tap

Tap Dance is an exciting, percussive, and rhythmical dance form. Dancers use their feet to strike the floor, creating a melody with their tap shoes, which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to produce the distinctive sound. This theatrical art form is often seen on screen and stage in musicals, captivating audiences with its dynamic and rhythmic performances.

Beginners are encouraged to start off in Grade 1 Tap & work their way through the grades.

By Grade 4, most children within the lesson are working hard in order to potentially take the ISTD Grade 4 Examination, so we aim to reach a stage whereby children can take their Grade 4 Tap Exam, if they so wish. Exams are not compulsory and many children decide just to move up to the next grade, however we offer the option of Tap exams to those pupils who are keen to focus on perfecting the syllabus. We believe as a dance school, it’s good for children to study towards exams as it encourages the pupils to practice and perfect the steps, and ultimately work towards a goal.

ISTD Grade 5 Tap is suitable for pupils who have completed ISTD Grade 4 tap

Within Grade 5 Tap, children become confident enough to begin working on more complex steps. Tap encourages self-discipline, self expression, allowing children to develop their listening skills and also encourage children to follow instruction. ISTD Tap helps children learn to work both as an individual and in a group, developing co-ordination, good posture, strength and suppleness, and also a chance to be free with the entertaining music and longer, more complex exercises.

Students will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and progress by performing in our annual show at the Parr Hall. This event is a highlight of the year, allowing students to experience the thrill and joy of performing on stage in front of an audience.
