Grade 4 Modern
ISTD Grade 4 Modern is suitable for students age 10 +

They students will need to have worked through the Grades 1-3.

Modern dance is a rhythmic dance style that originated in America before spreading worldwide. It is often featured in musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities.

Our classes follow the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) modern syllabus, which is well-established and provides vibrant, energetic, and fun grades filled with exercises, dances, and amalgamations to develop students. These classes complement ballet training by improving core strength and overall dance technique.

Modern dance is an essential discipline that enhances your child’s dance training and prepares them for various other mature dance styles such as commercial, street, and contemporary. Through modern dance, students learn the basic principles of rhythm, weight transference, traveling steps, high kicks, leaps, turns, balances, and various other techniques and vocabulary.

When students are ready, they will work towards an examination in ISTD modern. The ISTD examination structure is designed to support those who aspire to a professional dance career as performers or teachers, as well as those who enjoy dance as a leisure activity.

Students will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and progress by performing in our annual show at the Parr Hall. This event is a highlight of the year, allowing students to experience the thrill and joy of performing on stage in front of an audience.
