Tap Dance is an exciting, percussive, and rhythmical dance form. Dancers use their feet to strike the floor, creating a melody with their tap shoes, which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to produce the distinctive sound. This theatrical art form is often seen on screen and stage in musicals, captivating audiences with its dynamic and rhythmic performances.
Grade 2 Tap is suitable for students aged 8 and over, they will need to have studied Grade 1 Tap before progressing into this Grade. In Grade 2 Tap, children gain the confidence to work on more complex steps, such as pick-ups on two feet in the centre of the room. They also practice exercises like the ‘Turning Step’ and their ‘Amalgamation,’ performed individually, allowing them to combine previously learned simple steps into a cohesive performance piece.
Tap dance encourages self-discipline and self-expression, helping children develop their listening skills and follow instructions. The ISTD Tap syllabus teaches children to work both individually and in groups, enhancing coordination, good posture, strength, and suppleness. Additionally, it provides an opportunity for children to enjoy entertaining music and engage in longer, more complex exercises.
Students will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and progress by performing in our annual show at the Parr Hall. This event is a highlight of the year, allowing students to experience the thrill and joy of performing on stage in front of an audience.
