Primary Modern Age 4+

Modern is a rhythmic dance style that originated in America before spreading worldwide. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities.

The ISTD modern syllabus is well-established and provides vibrant, energetic, and fun grades filled with exercises, dances, and amalgamations to develop students. These classes complement ballet training by improving core strength and overall dance technique.

Like ballet, modern dance is an incredibly important discipline that will further enhance your child’s dance training. It also prepares them for various other mature dance styles such as commercial, street, and contemporary, as they learn the basic principles of rhythm, weight transference, traveling steps, high kicks, leaps, turns, balances, and various other dance techniques and vocabulary.

Children will work towards an examination in ISTD modern when they are ready. They can take a Primary Modern exam from age 5+

The ISTD examination structure is designed to cater equally to those who wish to pursue a professional dance career, either as performers or dance teachers, and those who enjoy dance as a leisure activity.

Students will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and progress by performing in our annual show at the Parr Hall. This event is a highlight of the year, allowing students to experience the thrill and joy of performing on stage in front of an audience.
